Persistence of a Memory – A Salvador Dali Masterpiece
There are lots of great works of art in the world, but few are basically recognized by everyone with the art aficionados to the layman on the street. The truth is, most people have no idea the real name of the painting itself, and merely call it the “melting clock picture”. This particular painting with it’s odd traces, strange objects, and nontraditional subjects is really a trademark of the surrealist group of painters which Salvador Dali had been part of. Dali was born Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali on May 11, 1904 from the Spanish town of Figueres.
His father was a notable man inside the government, and so they were granted the ability to summer on the coast of Spain. Dali spent the majority of his life in Spain and wedded a woman who he affectionately called Gala, but her given name was Helena Ivanovna Diakonova. Dali had been schooled at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. He first acquired notriety at a show in Barcelona at the age of 21.
After that Madrid, he was unveiled in the surrealists movement, which were created out of the Dada school. Along with the principal Dada convert and the top surrealist of the time, Edward Eluard, and the new look at psychology by Sigmund Freud, Dali’s work took a major turn from concrete to that of the surrealist. The surrealist movement believed that the realm of Art resided in the imagination.
Dali’s originals are housed in two certain museums. St. Petersburg, Florida Dali museum based on the assortment of Dali’s; his own museum the Theatre-Museu Gala-Salvador Dalí in Madrid, Spain. “The Persistence of Memory” is kept in the Metropolitain Museum of Art in New York City. However, it does make frequent stops in Florida and Madrid. In the first pencil sketch, to the last shed of paint on his last canvas, Dali reinvented the thing we view as art and painting.
