Born in Malaga, Spain, in 1881, Picasso lived until 1973, devoting the majority of his life in France. He exhibited early promise in art and his father, a teacher, motivated him, with the intention that he studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Barcelona. His previous artwork contained the Blue Period, characterized by primarily blue palettes and the downtrodden lower strata of existence.
